Announcement from the Board of Directors to Coalition Members
The Board congratulates Jennifer on her outstanding tenure, first as one of the original conveners of OOA, which formed immediately after the Pulse Tragedy in June 2016, and next as she became our Board Chair and finally by stepping into the role as Founding Executive Director in October 2018. She has dedicated the past four years of her life to our mission of unifying and empowering LGBTQ+ organizations in Central Florida and tirelessly served with the shared commitment to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive community for all LGBTQ+ people. Together with the coalition, she has ensured that the LGBTQ+ community has a seat at government, corporate and philanthropic tables and created a roadmap for collaborative impact with the Alliance Agenda.
Known as a visionary leader and trusted community collaborator, Jennifer’s task was to lay the foundation for a coalition of organizations focused on LGBTQ+ community-centric issues. Not only has she accomplished that, One Orlando Alliance has grown from the original 18 organizations to 43 while ensuring the coalition is recognized and trusted within the Central Florida region and beyond. Jennifer’s departure is part of the natural life-cycle of organizational evolution, we honor her decision and sincerely thank her for her contributions and leadership.
Jennifer’s leadership leaves OOA in a very strong position for continued growth and impact in the community. In her letter of resignation, she referred to it as “leveling up” and shared “In a relatively short period of time, we have achieved great success; however, to realize the next phase of our shared vision requires new leadership, with different skill sets.” adding that “The future potential of One Orlando Alliance, and our regional LGBTQ+ liberation movement, now requires a leader with a strong track record in three very specific areas: advocacy, development, and operational structure.”
It is with that focus that we now begin the search for the next Executive Director. We are confident that with Jennifer and the Board’s collaboration, we will make this a smooth transition for our members, partners and supporters. Jennifer’s last day will be October 8, 2020. The Board wishes her the very best in her future endeavors.
